Year 6 WWII Immersion Day
In History and English, Year 6 have been learning about WWII . Year 6 took part in a WWII immersion day with Andy Peck - giving them the opportunity to learn and practice skills used within WWII. They learnt how to build a shelter with just rope, a hammer and tarpaulin to keep them safe and dry; using simple flints, they were able to start their own small fire using only a few twigs and a steel bowl. Toasting marshmallows over a fire was a real treat enjoyed by everyone.
During the afternoon, the children tried their hand at WWII first aid, code breaking and Andy showed them lots of memorabilia which was actually used in WWII. It was a fantastic day of hands on learning. We gained practical skills but more importantly it made us realise how lucky we are and how thankful we should be to all those that fought.
