Virtues
“I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
At St Margaret’s we strive to develop each of our children as a whole person. This is achieved by placing Christ at the Centre of all we do. We use the materials from “Virtues to Live By,” a resource created by the Diocese of Leeds with the support of the Leeds Diocesan Association of Primary Headteachers.
The explicit teaching of virtues enables our pupils to improve the school community’s virtue literacy and to deepen their understanding and the appreciation of the critical role virtues play in the education of the whole person and as a result, allows human flourishing.
What is a Virtue
A virtue is an aspect of our character that is good. There are 3 Theological Virtues; Faith, Hope and Love, which are considered to be given as grace from God and focus on our relationship with God. There are also 4 Cardinal Virtues; prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance. These help us to develop good character and lead us towards living just and moral lives in society. Combined, they are seen as developing the whole person and are complementary in guiding us towards a life of moral excellence.
